On Friday, March 31st, 2023, the Friends of the New Jersey School of Conservation and NJ Youth Corps of Phillipsburg celebrated the 90th Anniversary of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) with a flag raising ceremony commemorating this historic program.

The NJ Youth Corps members proudly acted as Color Guards raising both the American and CCC Anniversary Flag as our National Anthem was played. Participants recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Conservation Pledge and Friends President Kerry Kirk Pflugh provided a brief history of the role the CCC played at the SOC. The CCC is responsible for forest resource and Conservation practices across our country. Two group camps were built on the grounds of the SOC. The young CCC members were responsible for building Camp Wapalanne, Lake Wapalanne and Piney Point. Six buildings on the Sequoia campus, structures Group Camp 71 lived and worked, are still in use today.

The NJSOC is proud of our CCC heritage and we say, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY CCC!
